On 30 July 2024, SchaSam NASDA Sports Club donated $200 to Giving Hope Project, a grass roots charity started in 2000 to benefit the local homeless population and which expanded in 2024 to provide for school supplies for the children of agricultural workers in the Skagit. This project was started by Liem Kaplan, the son of one of our NASDA competitors. A special thanks to Kathleen Daly who donated her run refund to the cause!
SchaSam Agility Group raised $1711 to help support an agility competitor in Pennsylvania who is “relearning” the sport after having a leg amputation. Sam’s agility buddy from back east, Heather, let us know about Ron’s situation and the SAG team decided to dedicate any profits, the ribbon buy back program and a raffle at the December 2023 NADAC trial to Ron’s quest to continue doing agility with Heather’s dog Franco. We hope Ron is able to “ride fast” and have fun!
SchaSam Agility Group (SAG) got a nice Thank you letter from the Salmon for Soldiers organization in June 2024 thanking us for the donation of $250 from their July ribbon buy back program. As part of our July Patriotic Puppy trial, we found this awesome program that provides free salmon fishing opportunities for our military Veterans. This program is designed to help reduce stress while creating new relationships with others who love fishing. Their events are designed to accommodate Veterans with paralysis, PTSD, TBI and other debilitating challenges.
September 15-17 - SAG hosted a NADAC agility trial as a fundraiser for Toys for Tots raising over 10K for this worthy cause. We had over 750 runs over the weekend with four volunteer judges - Patti Cavin, Pam Kaye, Jackie Loeser and Kari Hammargren. The crew worked hard to provide for not only the running of the trial, but held a silent auction and raffle for many donated items. We also had a cookie contest won by Michelle and a puppy kissing contest won by Susan & Calamity! Santa in September will give some local kids a happier Christmas! Come join us in December where we will be “freezin’ for a reason” at Fun Fur Paws where all profits will go to help buy Ron (a disabled military veteran from Pennsylvania) a more agile mobility scooter so he can play agility with Franco!
July 30th - 4H fun day at SchaSam Farm - we opened the Farm up to local 4H dog clubs to help kids (and their parents learn more about dog sports and hone their skills for Fair. With the expertise of Callie Kiehl (NASDA judge & National Champion Shed Dog), Elizabeth Buller (AKC Farm Dog Judge), Kassidy Jones (Rally and agility competitor), and James Hopper (NADAC competitor) we sent the kids and their dogs through a round robin of dog sports - scent work, farm dog, rally and agility. We worked some of the gaps in agility we noticed when working with the 4H Dog Caper at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe in May - broad jump and weaves.
June & July - NADAC competitor Karmen Davis Medical Expenses - In June we collected $320 from our ribbon buy back program to donate to Karmen to help with her out of pocket medical expenses while battling cancer. Our good friend at French Creek Pet Resort, Lisa, donated an additional $200 bringing the total to $520. In July we were able to donate another $800 to our pal to help her fight the good fight.
May - Linda Anderson, Meagan Spitler, Taylor & Josh Allen, Nate Zabel, Jayne Walker and James Hopper did some dog sport demonstrations and then round robin training in NASDA, tricks, treibball and agility for a herd of 4H dog kids during 4H Caper at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. The kids (and parents) seemed to really enjoy the interaction and learning experience.
March & May - - Dog people ROCK, as we continued to give back to worthy causes. At the March and May SAG trials we supported the Humane Society of Jefferson County with our ribbon buy back program and hosting a doggie yard sale. A grand total of $965 was donated to the HSJC which will be added to their building fund. Thank you to all the competitors who gave back their ribbons so the folks at HSJC can continue to do good work for homeless dogs and cats!

December 2022 - Dog people ROCK, here was the initial total of monies (not including the bins of toys collected) for Toys For Tots from the SchaSam Agility Group’s fund raiser trial. We got it up to $9500 (thank you Eric & Petra!) before turning it over to Toys for Tots. Ms Mary Butler, T4Ts coordinator for Snohomish County, was so appreciative of our generosity and it was fun to see folks “shopping” for their kids at the Toys for Tots local distribution center in Everett. Lots of local kids will have toys under their tree this year because of NADAC Corporate, NADAC judges and the NADAC competitors who made it all possible! Next year’s goal- break 10k!!! What a great crew - back row - Sam, Kristen, Nate, Anne S, Patti, Mike M, Beth, Middle: Mike, James, Judy, Deb, Kathy, Melissa, and in front Nancy H, Courtney, Nancy R,, Kari and Lizzy.
November 2022: Email received from Little Rascals 4H Club to thank SchaSam Farm for donating both dog agility equipment and $$ to their club. “Dear SchaSam Farm! Our dog program may be small this year but we have a big love for our dogs. Thank you so much for the extra funds in our account due to your generous donations and all the new backyard agility equipment spread throughout our homes! We have attached photos of River and “Lucy" the Cattledog! Last year was River’s first year in 4H, this year she is participating in three 4H projects and is learning about leadership roles this year so she can be a future teen leader, sharing her excitement about what 4H has to offer! Thank you again for your donations! 4H is in need of a lot of support and energy after the pandemic and these gestures of giving go a very long way in helping 4H rebound. Little Rascals 4H Club.
October 2022 - The SchaSam NASDA Sports Club donated over 125 pounds of canned and dry goods to the Stanwood/Camano Island Food Bank after their NASDA trial held at the Stanwood Camano Community Fairgrounds. As part of the rental agreement SchaSam NASDA Sports Club held a food drive and as always our dog people were very generous! Thank you to all who supported this great cause.
The September NADAC trial participants raised just over $500 in the ribbon buy back program allowing the Farm to write a check for that amount to the Skagit Humane Society which had just taken in over 100 dogs confiscated in a hoarding/breeding situation. SAG member Kassidy Jones presented the check to the SHS along with a load of crate pads, blankets, towels and dog food donated by the crew. THANK YOU for being kind and generous!
